Dell brings back its XPS line of notebooks

GeForce 400M graphics and Skype HD webcam included

DELL HAS ANNOUNCED a return of its XPS series of notebooks, although the brand has been around as a performance moniker on some of its other notebook ranges, it will once again return as Dell’s performance notebook brand. The company has announced three new models with varying specifications; including features such as GeForce 400M series graphics, Skype HD certified webcams standard, and JBL speakers.

Pre-emptive price drop by Nvidia

In preparation for the Radeon HD 6800 launch

NVIDIA SEEMS TO be worried that AMD’s Radeon HD 6800 cards are going to be too competitive in terms of price/performance compared to some of its line-up and as such the company has today revised its pricing on a couple of its models. Both the 1GB GeForce GTX 460 and the GTX 470  have had their prices cut to make them more competitive, all of which is good news for the consumers.

We’re getting close to launch

WE’RE A WEEK away from the anticipated launch of the Radeon HD 6800 series and there’s been more than a few leaks over the past 24h and we figured we’d try and collate some of that information into a more easily digestible format. Common Platform Alliance key to foundry success

Brings together Global Foundries, IBM, and Samsung

THE ORIGINAL ANNOUNCEMENT back in June seems to have been generally missed, possibly because most of us aren’t familiar with the Common Platform Alliance, an organization striving for a common, open design ecosystem and fab synchronization, amongst other things. Global Foundries, IBM, and Samsung are the key foundries that make up the Common Platform Alliance and they’re all currently working on a joint 28nm process technology platform which will make life easier for their customers.

Global Foundries talks 28 and 20nm at GTC Asia

28nm next year, followed by 20nm in 2012/2013

EARLIER TODAY WE attended Global Foundries Technology Conference Asia 2010 (GTC) and judging by the presentations, the company is without a doubt getting ready to give it its best to beat TSMC at its own game. Global Foundries is readying its 28nm production ramp and some early products are already being made, although this is only risk production with actual full on production taking place later next year.

Intel low power embedded Sandy Bridge coming in Q1’11

Core i mobile derived processors

WE’RE SURE THAT this isn’t coming as a surprise to anyone, but Intel will be offering embedded processors based on its Sandy Bridge core and the first models should appear around the same time as Intel’s mobile and desktop counterparts. However, the company is also readying a set of low power processors based on the mobile Sandy Bridge processors which will be slightly different from their mobile counterparts.
